Article Submission Guidelines

​

The mission of GAC Journal is to disseminate technical knowledge and promote the exchange of experiences among professionals, researchers, and specialists in the fields of contaminated site management, environmental preservation, and environmental restoration. To ensure the quality and relevance of the published content, authors are requested to follow the guidelines below when submitting their technical or scientific articles.

Guidelines for Article Publication

​

To meet the objectives mentioned above, articles should address topics relevant to the fields of contaminated site management and environmental preservation and restoration, such as:

​

- Methodologies and techniques for the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites;

- Scientific research related to contaminated site management;

- Proposal of methodologies, approaches, or techniques for the various stages of Contaminated Site Management;

- Case studies presenting technical solutions or management processes for contaminated sites;

- Studies related to environmental preservation, with an emphasis on soil and groundwater quality;
- Applications of environmental restoration techniques;

- Technical analyses of regulatory or normative processes related to environmental preservation and environmental quality restoration.

Submitted articles may be presented in two formats: **Scientific Articles** or **Technical Articles**.

**Scientific Articles** are those that involve the generation, analysis, and interpretation of primary data and follow the principles of the scientific method.

​

**Technical Articles** do not need to follow all the principles of the scientific method but must include a critical evaluation of data, which may or may not have been generated primarily by the author. Technical Articles may include experience reports, case studies, literature reviews, among others.

​

Submitted articles must be original, meaning they must not have been published in full in any other scientific or technical publication. Articles whose abstracts have been presented and/or published at Congresses, Symposia, or Conferences may be accepted, provided that the complete version is submitted.

Structure of a Technical Article

​

**Title:** Must be clear, objective, and reflect the content of the article.

​

**Authors:** Must include the full name, institutional or corporate affiliation (when applicable), and contact email of all authors.

​

**Abstract:** Must provide a summary of the work presented, with up to 140 words, including the objective, relevance to the sector, and conclusion.

​

**Keywords:** Must include between 3 and 5 terms representing the main topics of the article.

​

**Introduction:** Must present the problem or context in which the work was developed, as well as its objectives.

​

**Main Content:** Must describe the case study, methodology, or solution applied. Subheadings may be used to organize the text.

​

**Conclusion:** Must summarize the main results and impacts arising from the work.

​

**References:** All sources cited in the text must be listed in accordance with ABNT standards.

​

Structure of a Scientific Article

​

**Title:** Must be clear, objective, and reflect the content of the article.

​

**Authors:** Must include the full name, institutional or corporate affiliation (when applicable), and contact email of all authors.

​

**Abstract:** Must provide a summary of the work presented, with up to 140 words, including the objective, relevance to the sector, and conclusion.

​

**Keywords:** Must include between 3 and 5 terms representing the main topics of the article.

​

**Introduction:** Must provide the context in which the work/research was developed, allowing readers to understand the motivation for its development and its objectives.

​

**Materials and Methods:** The methodology used in developing the work/research must be described in sufficient detail to enable replication, specifying the materials and methods employed.

​

**Interpretation and Discussion of Results:** Results must be presented in an organized manner consistent with the methodological procedures. Discussions should be supported by technical and scientific literature and, where appropriate, correlated with other relevant studies.

​

**Conclusions or Final Considerations:** Conclusions must be clearly stated, supported by the data presented in the article, and directly related to the objectives. They should represent an advancement in knowledge on the topic addressed.

​

**References:** The references cited in the article must be listed at the end of the text, following the standard established by ABNT NBR 10520:2023 to ensure consistency and clarity in the citation of sources.

​

Article Formatting

​

The text must be prepared on A4 paper, with top and left margins of 3 cm and right and bottom margins of 2 cm, 1.15 line spacing, 1.0 cm paragraph indentation, Arial 12-point font, without formatting, without hyphenation, using Microsoft Word. Scanned texts must not be used. (Review according to ABNT standards for printing).

The article must have a maximum of 15 pages, including text, illustrations, and references.

​

**Units of measurement** – Must follow the International System of Units (SI). Uncommon symbols and abbreviations, when used, must have their meanings explicitly stated upon their first appearance in the text.

​

**Equations and formulas** – Must be inserted into the text using Microsoft Word tools. All symbols and abbreviations used must have their meanings explicitly stated. For citation purposes throughout the text, equations may be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals, placed to the right of the equation.

​

**Foreign words** – Words written in a language different from that of the text must be highlighted in italics.

​

**Authorship** – Reproduction of portions of texts by other authors should be avoided. However, when necessary, such excerpts must be presented within quotation marks.

**Footnotes** – Footnotes are not accepted (including those indicating the names of institutions or companies). Any complementary notes may be included at the end of the text as **APPENDICES**, limited to essential details required for understanding the text.

**Writing style** – The text must be written impersonally, using the third person singular or plural.

​

**Tables and Charts** – Must have sequential numbering and clear, concise titles placed at the top. The information and data contained in tables and charts must be presented in Arial font, no smaller than 8-point. Additional information, such as explanatory notes and the source of the data/information, must appear immediately below the table/chart, with single spacing and a font size smaller than that used in the table or chart.

**Images** – Images include maps, plans, photographs, profiles, sections, sketches, graphs, diagrams, among others. Images must be prepared in high resolution (300 dpi) and at their final display size, and must not be enlarged by stretching.

Images must have sequential numbering and concise titles consistent with the object presented, with the title placed below the image. When necessary, captions must be sized to ensure that the information presented can be clearly understood.

Article Evaluation

​

It is the responsibility of the Editors to conduct a preliminary evaluation of the submitted article. If there are any restrictions to publication, the authors will be informed of the issues identified, requested to make the necessary revisions, and asked to resubmit the article for a new evaluation within 5 days.

​

Articles that comply with the submission guidelines will be forwarded to the Scientific Committee, which will be responsible for evaluating the submitted manuscripts and may request reviews from specialized consultants if necessary.

​

In this case, the articles will be sent to two reviewers collaborating with the Journal. The evaluation follows a double-blind peer review process, in which reviewers do not have access to the authors' identities and vice versa. Reviewers may recommend acceptance, rejection, or request the necessary revisions.

​

The Scientific Committee is responsible for the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of the article, based on the reviewers' reports.

​

The opinions of the Scientific Committee members are final and, as such, are not subject to appeal. Therefore, the importance of high-quality manuscripts and strict compliance with the submission requirements, formatting standards, and evaluation criteria is emphasized.

​

If the article is not approved, the corresponding author will be notified.

​

After the article has been accepted, no further corrections or modifications will be permitted.

​

Confidentiality and Ethics

​

Privileged information or ideas obtained through the peer review process must remain confidential and may not be used for personal gain or disclosed to third parties.

The names and email addresses entered on the GAC Journal website will be used exclusively for the purposes stated by this journal. They will not be made available for any other purpose or shared with any other party.

By submitting an article to the GAC Journal, the author agrees to transfer the copyright for publication. The intellectual property of the content remains with the author, while publication in the Journal ensures public access to the work.
